Windermere and Bowness Tourist Information

Lake WindermereLake Windermere is the largest natural lake in England, over ten miles long and one mile at its widest point. It is very popular with tourists for water sports or boat hire. Try a walk or climb in the surrounding fells and discover the amazing scenery. Take a ferry from Bowness and visit the preserved steam railway or indulge your childhood memories in the World of Beatrix Potter. Here you can meet Peter Rabbit and all his friends in Windermere as you tour the exhibition.

Join a leisurely cruise at Ambleside, Bowness or Lakeside, operated by Windermere Lake Cruises. Stop off at any of the points of interest and hop back on again later, a great way to see the area. Visit the Aquarium of the Lakes at Newby Bridge, which houses the UK's largest collection of freshwater fish.
