Opera Tourist Information & Visitor Guide

Opera OverviewNamed after the magnificent Opera National de Paris Garnier, this famous Paris quarter is a curious mix of bankers, shoppers, theatre-goers and sightseers. There are several sweeping boulevards and shops ranging from the super-exclusive to popular department stores. Don't miss the Place de la Madeleine, a food lovers paradise and home to a fabulous church.

  • Opéra de Paris Garnier - the opulent opera building dates back to 1862 and was finally finished in 1875
  • Bibliothèque Nationale - the national library holds the manuscript collections of medieval kings and a copy of every French book printed since 1537
  • Fontaine Molière - constructed in the 19th-century by Louis Visconti to honour the French playwright Molière
  • La Madeleine - dedicated to Mary Magdelene and one of the best known buildings in Paris because of it's prominent location and size
  • Musée Grévin - founded in 1882 and is now a Paris landmark, on a par with Madame Tussauds in London
  • Place de la Concorde - the largest square in Paris and the site of the guillotine that where King Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette were beheaded
