Northumberland Coastline

Northumberland CoastlineThe coastal region of Northumberland is one of Britain's most stunning seaside areas. Adjacent to the Scottish Borders to the north and the North Sea to the east, the 100 mile long Northumberland Coast is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The 58 mile long Northumberland Coast Path, part of the international North Sea Trail is one of two traditional walking paths in the area, the other - the 97 mile long St Oswald’s Way, commencing at Holy Island and ending at Hadrian's Wall is famous for its treks through the regions valleys and varied landscapes.

Sweeping from the historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to the village of Tynemouth with its golden sands and rolling surf, in the south, the area compasses a diverse range of typical English seaside towns, villages and hamlets, many of which are rewarding tourist centres themselves. Blyth features an attractive fishing harbour and a number of pretty churches, whilst Amble is a popular tourist town with its pier and range of interesting shops and restaurants. Bamburgh offers visitors the chance to witness it's fantastic castle as well as the popular Grace Darling Museum.

Northumberland's Heritage Coast is a popular holiday area, not only for day visits, but as a main holiday, being easily accessible by both private and public transport from other parts of the UK.
Much of the area is unpopulated, tranquil, with mile-after-mile of clean and safe award-winning golden sandy beaches, quiet country lanes and an unequalled sense of freedom.
