North West England Tourist Information and Visitor Guide

North West England OverviewFrom the crazy fun of Blackpool to the tranquil beauty of the Lake District, the North West of England will surprise and delight. Enjoy the maritime city of Liverpool, famous for The Beatles, walk the second longest pier in England at Southport and shop 'til you drop in Manchester. The walled city of Chester is certainly worth a visit but if you're looking for escapism, the Isle of Man is perfect.

North West England Counties

  • Cheshire - a green and pleasant county stretching from the Welsh Borders to the Great Manchester area. Not to be missed is Chester, an historic Roman city still sheltered by staunch walls
  • Cumbria - dominated by the glorious Lake District, a region of sparkling lakes cradled between hills and mountains; a perfect destination for short breaks or a long weekend
  • Greater Manchester - an eclectic mix of industrial parks, residential villages and small towns surrounding the vibrant city of Manchester. Fans of the industrial revolution will enjoy exploring Rochdale and Oldham
  • Isle of Man - a unique island lying just 60 miles off the coast of Lancashire in the Irish Sea, steeped in myth and legend. Famous for the TT Races, the capital Douglas is well worth exploring
  • Lancashire - a fascinating county of extremes; for some good old-fashioned fun, head for Blackpool but for something a little quieter, try Lytham St Annes
  • Merseyside - a fascinating area dominated by the lively city of Liverpool, birthplace of The Beatles and famed for its sense of humour. In complete contrast, the elegant resort of Southport lies just a short drive up the coast
