North East England Counties

  • County Durham - Durham Cathedral cradled in the arms of the River Wear is possibly one of the most awesome World Heritage Sites in the country and is just one of the many lovely things to see in this delightful little county
  • Northumberland - a magic kingdom of remote shorelines, enigmatic islands and the magnificent castle at Alnwick. Hadrian's Wall, built by the Romans to keep the Scots at bay is astounding; stay at Hexham to see it
  • Tees Valley - a dramatic coastline harbours a land of rolling hills and wooded valleys. A visit to historic Hartlepool is well worth the time, but if you are en-route to Yorkshire, Middlesbrough has plenty of hotels
  • Tyne & Wear - dominated by the vibrant city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and its sister city, Gateshead. Excellent shopping, fantastic museums and galleries, great restaurants and a good club scene
