Beaulieu Abbey Ruins

Founded in 1204 by Cistercian monks the abbey provides a great insight into the monastic way of life. The former refectory is now the parish church. 'The Domus' has a beamed ceiling dating from the 15C.

A royal hunting lodge until 1204 when it became a Cistercian Abbey. Although most of the buildings were demolished after 1538, the Great Gatehouse remained & is the basis of the present home of the Montagu family.
