Rietveld Schröder’s House

Nicolaaskerkhof 10, 3512 XC Utrecht, , Utrecht

Built in 1924 this interesting and arty house has been open for public viewing since 1987. It is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site and takes its name from its designer Gerrit Rietveld and its former inhabitant Truus Schröder. It features De Stijl architecture and relates in no way to its neighbouring houses from its position on the end of a terrace.

Amsterdam Historical Museum (Historisch Museum)

Housed in a splendid 17th-century building that was a former civic orphanage, this museum tell the history of Amsterdam through its vast collection of art and artifacts from medieval times to the present.

Anne Frank House

Prinsengracht 263, , Noord-Holland

For more than two years Anne Frank and her family lived in the annex of the building at Prinsengracht 263 where Anne’s father, Otto Frank, also had his business. The Van Pels family and Fritz Pfeffer hid there with them.

Artificial Light in Art Centre

The Artificial Light in Art Centre houses a range of paintings, sculptures and works of art which focus on artificial light. There is all sorts to see in this unusual museum, from light bulbs and neon to black light and strip lighting. The museum continues the light theme which flows throughout the city, thanks largely to the role of the Philips museum over the decades.

Begijnhof

The Begijnhof is an enclosed courtyard dating from the early 14th century. The beautiful houses overlook its well-kept green garden, include the Amsterdam's oldest surviving house Het Houten Huis dating from around 1420.

Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum

The collections of the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum span the periods from the Middle Ages up to the present day with old art, prints and drawings, decorative arts and modern art all represented. Old masters such as Rubens and Rembrandt are present alongside modern European artists including Dali and Magritte.

Centraal Museum

Utrecht’s Centraal Museum first opened in 1838 and initially housed art from in and around the city itself. Today it is home to art originating from before the mid-19th century, fashion, city history, modern art and applied art. While formerly situated on the top floor of the city’s town hall, the museum now takes up its position in a former medieval monastery. Rietveld Schröder’s house is also under the jurisdiction of the Centraal Museum.

Diergaarde Blijdorp – Rotterdam Zoo

The zoo takes visitors on a journey through the different regions and habitats of the world whilst learning about the animals that inhabit them. The Oceanium is a highlight, an underwater world filled with exotic creatures such as sharks, jellyfish and imposing emperor penguins.

Housed in Palace Lange Voorhout, the former home of Queen Beatrice’s grandmother, this museum is dedicated to the Dutch graphic artist Maurits Cornelis Escher. Escher was famous for his prints and drawings that normally contained some element of metamorphosis or visual riddle.

Euromast

Standing at 185 metres tall the Euromast is the highest lookout tower in the Netherlands. Euromast was built in 1960 in honour of the international garden festival, the Floriade, and it then rose 104 meters above Rotterdam and its industrious port.

GEM Museum of Contemporary Art

The GEM museum has 2000 m2 of exhibition space dedicated to displaying one of the Netherlands’ leading collections of multimedia contemporary art and photography. A changing programme of exhibitions is complemented by a variety of lectures and seminar groups prompting lively discussions about modern art and there is a popular restaurant that opens until midnight.

Genneper Park

The Genneper Parks, near the centre of Eindhoven, feature lovely scenery and plenty of activities for all ages. There are vast outdoor areas, sports centres, a farm, a museum and a swimming centre. It is thought that some two million people venture to these 200-acre large parks throughout the year.

Het Binnenhof

The Binnenhof has always been the centre of Dutch political life and today is the official seat of Government, hosting state receptions, the Queen’s annual address and parliamentary conferences. At the centre of the Binnenhof lies the soaring Hall of the Knights, the 13th century lodge of the Counts of Holland with spectacular leaded glass windows and gothic architecture.

Het Schielandshuis

Kijk-Kubus

Situated just outside of Blaak railways station are Rotterdam’s famous cube-shaped houses. The buildings were designed as an architectural experiment by Piet Blom to abstractly represent the structure of trees, the houses together making up a wood. Most of the houses are residential but the Kijk-Kubus show house gives visitors the opportunity to take a look inside one of these unusual structures.

Madurodam

The world famous miniature city Madurodam invites visitors to experience all of the Netherlands in one tiny place. Famous landmarks and typical Dutch landscapes are replicated in this fictitious city on a scale of 1:25, covering an area of 25,600 square metres amid the trees of the Scheveningen woods.

Magere Brug
