Nausicaa

Nausicaa sea life centre - attractionNausicaa is the largest aquarium in Europe with over 10,000 sea creatures to watch and explore. It is located near the beach at the entrance to the harbour in Boulogne-ser-Mer and is dedicated to teach us all how ‘the sea is part of our planet, so it should matter to all of us’. It appeals to all ages and is well laid out, with information in English as well as French. Visitors can gain hands on experience of the management of marine resources, learn about environmental threats and the relationship between the sea and mankind.

The centre has over 1,400 square meters of aquariums with both temporary and permanent exhibitions and much of it is under cover and therefore is ideal in bad weather. Some of the highlights include:

  • a 1.2 million litre shark pool where you can come face to face with these magnificent creatures from the observatory,
  • a huge touch tank full of skate, turbot, cod and dogfish which is open-topped for visitors to stroke its inhabitants,
  • a beautiful tropical lagoon with coral and tropical fish,
  • a natural environment for sea-lions - check out the feeding times for some family fun,
  • an exhibit of a French deep-sea trawler where you can experience the  pitching and tossing of a North Sea gale and
  • a 3D cinema with presentations on preservation.

They also have a diary of events including a festival of nature and world ocean day. Nausicaa provides a great day out for all the family.
