The walled town of Montreuil-sur-Mer, dates back to Roman times. The remains of the 9th century ramparts can still be seen, surrounding a delightful town of cobbled streets and pretty buildings. Once a major sea port, silt clogged the river leaving the town high and dry. Now surrounded by beautiful countryside, Montreuil-sur-Mer is a great base from which to explore Pas-de-Calais.
