  • Ariège - a sparsely populated part of France which Andorra, this département mainly consists of mountainous and rural areas. Roquefort and the caves, are a popular attraction, as many go to taste the famous cheese. The Forest de Belesta are also worth a visit, known as one of the most beautiful forests in the Pyrénées
  • Aveyron - this region has mountains, valleys great rivers and lakes, which offer various sporting activities. The Cathedrale Notre-Dame at Rodez has a pink stone face and a luxuriously decorated bell tower, another town that you may want to visit is Millau, famous for glove making, this riverside town has a relaxed atmosphere and some great views
  • Gers - picturesque villages such as Lavardens and Boular are scattered over the rolling countryside. The Gers also provides a variety of sporting activities, from the traditional bull fighting at Vic-Fezensac, to the Nogaro racetrack which is popular with motorcyclists
  • Hautes-Garonne - lakes, valleys and mountains dominate the Pyrénées which lies to the south and to the east the land is dominated by bright yellow sunflowers. Toulouse is a vibrant city full of character, the old town is charming with narrow streets and cafés and yet this is also a high tech industrial town
  • Hautes-Pyrénées - mountains, rivers, lakes and streams cover the majority of this region and create some breath-taking scenery. You can visit Lourdes, which is famous for the Grotte de Massabielle, here is where Bernadette Soubirous saw eighteen visions of the Virgin Mary, the town can get very busy and has many souvenir shops
  • Lot - the landscape is carved by three rivers, the Lot offers boat trips with view of the pretty villages and vineyards that slope down to the river. Cahors is situated on this river and is home to the Pont Valentre a medieval bridge. Rocamadour is a picturesque town, situated on the side of a hill
  • Tarn - a diverse landscape of forests, mountains and vineyards. There are many castles, museums and churches to discover in the small towns and villages. The Mediterranean sea is a short drive away and Toulouse is also in close proximity.
  • Tarn-et-Garonne - there are two rivers that flow through this département, Le Tarn and La Garonne, these provide great opportunities for canoeing, fishing and sailing. Other popular outdoor activities are walking, horse riding and climbing. The bastide town of Montauban should not be overlooked, it is built out of pink brick and has a lovely main square
