Lake Windermere
Lake Windermere is the most popular holiday resort in the Lake District especially in the summer months. The large lake is over ten miles long and one mile wide and is a playground for water sport enthusiasts.
Along it's shores sit many picturesque hotels such as the sumptuously furnished Lakeside Hotel, The Beech Hill Hotel with superb views from it's restaurant, the luxurious 4* Low Wood Hotel and the Old England Hotel with it's rosette winning Vinand Restaurant.
There is a cable operated car ferry that crosses regularly from Ferry Nab to Far Sawrey across the mid point of the lake. Why not take in the sights from the water and board a steamer or launch at Ambleside, Bowness or Lakeside for a hop-on hop-off adventure, then visit the Windermere Steamboat Museum for a wealth of interesting information. If you are really into steam then also head off to The Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway for a great time exploring the preserved steam railway.
