East Midlands OverviewEncompassing the Peak District, cathedral cities, home of Robin Hood and many vibrant towns, the East Midlands region is a great area to visit. Don't miss the spa town of Buxton, the soaring walls of Lincoln Cathedral or the cosmopolitan city of Nottingham. The varied coastline is home to some very traditional English seaside resorts and don't forget Rutland, England's smallest county.


The East Midlands Counties

  • Derbyshire - a striking contrast between stunning scenery including the Peak District and the striking spa town of Buxton and the traditional manufacturing centres like Chesterfield and Derby
  • Leicestershire - this is an county of contrasts ranging from beautiful rolling agricultural land through to busy industrial cites including Leicester Melton Mowbray is home to some very traditional English foods
  • Lincolnshire - apart from the Lincoln Wolds, this primarily flat county, has the striking city of Lincoln as its county town. Lincolnshire is home to the traditional seaside resort of Skegness and Cleethorpes
  • Northamptonshire - its central location makes access easy to places such as Oxford, Cambridge and Stratford. The county town of Northampton is just off the M1 motorway and has a fast rail link to London
  • Nottinghamshire - is a green and pleasant land, traditionally home to Robin Hood, and includes the cosmopolitan city of Nottingham. The county was the birthplace of writer D.H. Lawrence
  • Rutland - England's smallest county and contains the village of Stilton, home of the world famous cheese, 2 bustling market towns, 40 picturesque villages and some beautiful countryside

  • Nottingham-East Midlands Airport - serves Scotland, Ireland and many European capitals including Paris and Berlin.
