Brittany Tourist Information and Visitor Guide

Brittany Tourist Information and Visitor GuideJutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, Brittany has always had a unique atmosphere that is quite distinct from the rest of France. The fractured coastline, pounded by wind and sea has created superb clifftop walks, sheltered bays of white sand and thriving fishing ports. Peppered with historic cities, medieval villages and prehistoric standing stones, it would take a lifetime to explore this wonderful region.

Brittany Highlights

  • Brélévenez Church, Lannion - dates from the 12C but its granite clock tower is from the 15C. Down in the crypt there is a superb entombment with sculpted people in multi-coloured stone (18C)
  • Cap D'Erquy - a beautiful headland where the author of the Asterix comics drew inspiration for the valiant Gaul's home village
  • Oceanopolis, Brest - a superb maritime experience covering everything from reef fish to sharks
  • Quimper - dominated by a spendid Gothic Cathedral, Quimper is most famous for its beautiful pottery
  • Musee des Beaux-Arts, Rennes - this fabulous gallery includes part of Napoleon's Royal Collection and features works by many world-class artists
  • Ile du Grand Bé - a small island with panoramic views along the whole of Côte d'Emeraude
  • Carnac - the standing stones are an astonishing site, littered as they are across a primordial landscape
  • Statue of Pope John Paul II, Ploermel - see that larger-than-life bronze statue of Pope John Paul II unveiled in 2006
