The Peter Rabbit Naturally Better Garden – Opening 2009
We are all familiar with the wonderful cast of characters created by Beatrix Potter, Jemima Puddle-duck, Mrs Tiggy-winkle and those mischievous rabbits, Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail and Peter. Each and every story is set against a rich background of the well-tended vegetable patches and lush pastures of the Lake District landscape.
In honour of the 100th anniversary of the last Peter Rabbit tale, The World of Beatrix Potter is creating The Peter Rabbit Naturally Better Garden in Bowness-on-Windermere. A bronze sculpture featuring many of your favourite characters will form the centrepiece of a garden filled with all the plants mentioned in the books, tasty carrots, soothing camomile and luscious lettuces. Great care is being taken to source old varieties that Beatrix Potter would have known and grown to celebrate her love of conservation.
Europe’s only themed Beatrix Potter attraction brings all the Potter tales to life; meet Jemima Puddle-duck in the woodland glade, Mrs. Tiggy-winkle in her kitchen and, of course, Peter Rabbit in Mr McGregor’s garden! The Miss Potter Room focuses on the author herself and explores her passion for conserving the farming landscape and her part in establishing the National Trust.
