Henry VIII – 500th Anniversary

22nd April 2009 marks the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII’s accession to the throne and great plans are afoot to celebrate one of Britain’s most rumbustious kings.

Hampton Court Palace is dedicating the whole of 2009 to this larger-than-life King with some fantastic exhibitions, new displays, special events and the building of a new garden, Henry’s Privy Garden. A unique taster of what is to come begins on the 27th December 2008 with Henry VIII’s Christmas, a hilarious insight into grovelling courtiers and imperious monarchs!

Throughout 2009, Henry’s marriage to his last wife, Kathryn Parr will be celebrated in a serious of lavishly dressed rooms and magnificent wedding feasts in the Great Hall whilst the newly opened Council Chamber will be displaying 16th century portraits of all six wives.

Henry VIII enjoyed staying at Hampton Court Palace but when matters of state intervened he lived at the Tower of London.  A superb exhibition opens in the White Tower on the 3rd April 2009 that brings together a huge range of object d’art, armour, paintings and many other items associated with Henry VIII.
