Ambleside Daffodil & Spring Flower Show 28-29 March 2009

No where can be more famous for its daffodils than the Lake District where they were immortalised by William Wordsworth in his poem ‘Daffodils’.

Now you too can wander ‘lonely as a cloud’ and see a ‘host of golden daffodils’ at the Ambleside Daffodil and Spring Flower Show being held in the Ambleside Kelsick Centre.  There are no less than 6 prizes to be won in the daffodil section alone and entries are still welcome for vases of trumpet daffodils, narcissus and miniatures.

The Ambleside Spring Show is one of England’s treasures, a traditional flower show with cake competitions, photography, handicrafts, flower arranging and much much more.  The prizes are not huge, the displays don’t even try to compete with the likes of Chelsea or Hampton Court Flower Shows but the care and pride with which each competition entry has been presented amply make up for  the lack of grandeur.

More importantly, the Ambleside Daffodil and Spring Flower show is the perfect anti-dote to the high-tech world of mobiles, emails, lap tops and Twitterers; everything you see will have been made or grown by hand, drawing on traditions that have been passed down from mother to daughter, father to son.
