Keukenhof 2009: 19 March – 21 May 2009

Daffodils, tulips and hyacinths in every colour imaginable will explode into bloom at the Keukenhof Park, Lisse, Netherlands. Swathes of clipped grass dividing magnificent beds of citrus yellow, hot pinks and dusky purples shimmering under a cloud of pungent spring perfume from over seven million bulbs.

The theme for the 60th spring celebration is to be ‘USA, New Amsterdam – New York, 400’ in honour of the day Henry Hudson, representing the Dutch East India Company stepped off his ship onto Manhattan Island, thus claiming the land for the Netherlands and naming it New Amsterdam.

A shimmering swathe of blue grape hyacinths representing the Hudson River will lead visitors from the Keukenhof Park gates past floral representations of many New York icons such as Brooklyn, Harlem and the Statue of Liberty.  Individual themed gardens are planned including ‘The American  Dream’ which promises a profusion of colour, perfume and unusual blooms.

Pavilions bursting with floral fantasies, quiet pathways edged with golden daffodils, ancient trees sheltering delicate petals and vast pools of tulips in every shade imaginable, Keukenhof 2009 promises to be one of the most glorious expressions of spring ever seen.
