Nottingham Classics at the Royal Concert Hall – 2008-2009 Season
Nothing is more uplifting than an evening at the theatre listening to world class classical performers and Nottingham has just such a season planned running from October 2008 right the way through to June 2009.
The season kicks off on the 25th October 2008 with Igor Stravinsky’s stirring Rite of Spring, a fabulous piece that caused a riot at its premiere in Paris in 1913. It will be performed by the festival’s resident orchestra, the Halle, under the baton of Markus Stenz. This fabulous first night also includes works by Beethoven and Weber.
As the season progresses, audiences will be treated to some all time favourites, Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No.3 and there will be a few surprises too. BRIT award-winner Ruth Palmer will perform Barber’s lyrical Violin Concerto whilst the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra will no doubt give their all to Glinka’s Russlan and Ludmilla Overture.
The season draws to a close with the Nottingham Classics Schools’ Concert showcasing some of the best young musicians in the country followed by a Drivetime Concert featuring snippets from everyone’s favourite composers including Mozart, Sibelius and John Williams.
