Historic Dinner Service Returns to Chirk Castle

The State Dining Table at Chirk Castle, near Llangollen, has recently been relaid with a spectacular dinner service, restored and returned to its original home, having been bought at auction in Sweden. The blue and white service, which bears the coat of arms of the Myddleton family, is believed to have been produced early in the 19th century. Chirk Castle is set in a stunning location with views over nine counties and is the only Edward I Welsh castle still to be occupied. As well as the castle, there are award-winning gardens to be explored with the thatched “Hawk House”, shrub garden, lime tree avenue and yew topiary. There is also a circular walk through the wooded medieval hunting park.

Nearby Llangollen, with a wide choice of hotels, makes a great base for visiting Chirk and exploring the many other attractions in this part of North Wales. Llangollen is home to a world-famous international Eisteddford, as well as Telford’s spectacular 19th century aqueduct, carrying the Llangollen canal over the Dee Valley.
