Dorset’s New Reef set to Revitalise Seaside Resort

Work has started on Bournemouth’s forthcoming artificial reef. The reef is one of only four in the world and the first in Europe and is designed to provide artificial surfing conditions on nearby Boscombe beach, and enhance the marine environment.

It will be 210 metres off the beach, the size of a football pitch and will be built primarily from 55 huge geo-textile bags pumped full of sand on a webbing base.

The exciting new development, which is costing the best part of £3m, is the centrepiece of a regeneration project in Boscombe - which compared with central Bournemouth is a less known part of Poole Bay. On the back of the development, a wide range of hotels are being developed along with a Mediterranean style piazza offering new restaurants and shops. The development is helping enhance this already popular British seaside resort and reinforce its presence as a major tourist attraction.

I can’t wait! I am a huge surfing fan and Bournemouth will be as good as Newquay when the reef is finished.

We used your Bournemouth hotels guide last time which was very helpful.
