  • Dordogne - rolling hills and forests in the Northeast, Vineyards in the Dordogne Valley, castles and prehistoric caves in the southeast and limestone plateaus in the centre. Bergerac is a pretty market town with medieval houses in the old harbour. This area has some fantastic local markets offering local cuisine
  • Gironde - a large region with plenty to offer, there are 57 different wines for you to sample, 126kms of coast, the largest sand dune in Europe and the chance to see some of Europes rarest birds. Towns worth visiting include Arcachon, a coastal resort and Bordeaux, a wine producing port
  • Landes - with a long stretch of coast line and a town, Dax, famous for its hot springs, thermal spas and hot mud. Mont-de-Marsan known as "the city of rivers" is another important town, for its production of Armagnac wine and is visited in the summer season for bull fighting
  • Lot-et-Garonne - rolling countryside scattered with ruins of castles left as a reminder of the hundred years war. The welcoming and relaxed town of Agen is known mostly for its its talented rugby team and its production of prunes
  • Pyrenees-Atlantiques - offering beautiful landscapes of waterfalls, snow capped peaks, caves, snow sports, fishing and walking. In the West of the region Biarritz is a coastal resort popular with surfers and the rich and famous. The capital of the department is Pau which has pretty buildings and is the birthplace of Henry IV
