Ambleside and Grasmere are ideal bases for exploring the central and southern Lake District. Here you will find magnificent scenery, gardens, historic buildings and a literary and artistic heritage. Visit the Armitt Museum which houses the hundreds of watercolours bequeathed by Beatrix Potter or appreciate the work of William Wordsworth at the Dove Cottage Museum.
Ambleside is the larger of the villages and is located just north of Lake Windermere. From here you can take a Lake Cruise to Brockhole or Bowness taking in the wonderful scenery. Grasmere is just a few miles north west of Ambleside and is only a short walk to Grasmere Lake.
